Freshmen college students amuse me. Really, they do. Most of them were eligible to register for classes today. The way my university works is that every day a new group of students can register based on number of hours earned not including the current semester's hours. Super Seniors (those who have enough hours to graduate, but for some reason haven't) go first. Well, not technically. There are four groups that have priority registration. Honors, athletes, tour guides and students with disabilities get to register several weeks ahead of even seniors. My issues with this policy is a post in and of itself and I will not go into it.

Now, today is when students with 0 earned hours could register for classes. This is the vast majority of freshmen. This is the group that came in with no credits. No APs or anything like that. Sucks for them, but not my problem.

What is my problem is that they have to be advised by the Academic Advising and Planning Center (aka the AAPC) before they can register for classes. These freshmen have been e-mailed a minimum of three times about this requirement and yet some of them had the nerve to call today and demand to be seen by their adviser so that they can register for classes today like they're supposed to. The advisers have been booked solid since, oh, about two weeks ago. The other student workers, the full time administrative assistant and I took great pleasure in explaining that there was no way they could meet with their adviser until December 1st in the vast majority of cases. 2 advisers had appointments available on Tuesday next week. That's it.

Seriously, this crop of freshmen needs to read their e-mails. There are some in serious threat of being kicked out of school because they haven't turned in their final high school transcripts. Honestly now people. This is not rocket science or anything of the like.
